“Business of Clean Tech” Executive Luncheon will Focus on Clean Technology Initiatives, Trends and Business Opportunities; Keynote Address by Governor David A. Paterson (Invited)

HAUPPAUGE, NEW YORK, April 13, 2010 – Clean Technology and Green Technology are among the fastest growing investment areas, even in a down economy, and New York State is recognized as a leader in promoting and funding renewable energy projects across the state. This will be a key focus during a hotly anticipated discussion on the “Business of Clean Tech” presented at the Executive Luncheon on Thursday, May 27, 2010 as part of the HIA-LI’s 22nd Annual Business Trade Show & Conference at Suffolk County Community College Sports & Exhibition Complex in Brentwood. The Executive Luncheon event features a keynote address by Governor David A. Paterson (Invited) where the Governor and key members of his energy team will discuss how their efforts are leading New York State towards an innovative clean energy economy. The HIA-LI conference, which this year will boast nearly 400 exhibitors and over 4,500 attendees from the business, technology, professional services, educational and governmental segments, will also showcase a Green Pavilion on the exhibition floor where attendees can glimpse the Clean Tech future and exchange information on opportunities available to Long Island businesses in clean technologies and renewable energy.

“HIA-LI is leading the promotion of energy awareness and efficiency to Long Island businesses, using the Hauppauge Industrial Park as a pilot site,” said HIA President Terri Alessi-Miceli. “HIA-LI has sponsored and created a series of events, awards and programs that support our green initiative. These include “Go Green” education programs, an HIA-LI Business of Clean Technology Scholarship Fund, and the Clean Tech Pavilion at our conference.”

“The presence of the Governor helps underscore the importance and opportunities available in clean technologies and renewable energy for Long Island Businesses. Working together, the HIA-LI hopes to accelerate the growth of Clean Tech companies to create tens of thousands of Good Green Jobs.,” said HIA Board Second Vice-Chairperson and President of CleanTech Rocks, David Winchester. “The Governor has worked tirelessly to move New York State into the clean energy economy.” Mr. Winchester is also a co-chair of HIA’s Green
Industries Committee.

“Business of CleanTech” Executive Luncheon
Governor Paterson is expected to discuss the New York State Energy Plan which identifies a number of specific policy initiatives that set forth a vision for a robust and innovative clean energy economy that will stimulate investment, create jobs and meet the energy needs of residents and businesses over the next ten years. New York State has already set one of the world’s most ambitious clean goals. Achieving this goal is expected to create an estimated 50,000 new jobs in New York.

One of the primary sectors for innovation in the coming years will be energy. New York State is vying to become the number-one exporter of clean energy technology in the nation. If the effort is successful, it will result in lower costs and better jobs. For every job created in the innovation sector, 3.5 additional jobs are created in the overall economy.

A panel discussion will follow the Governor’s keynote address. This distinguished panel of NYS energy leaders will discuss how NYS companies and organizations will benefit by collaborating, innovating and working together to accelerate the growth of CleanTech companies which will lead to the creation of tens of thousands of Good Green Jobs. The Executive Luncheon program will be moderated by John Kominicki, President and Publisher, Long Island Business News. The expert panelists who have agreed to participate are:

  • Thomas Congdon, Deputy Secretary for Energy and Chair of the State Energy Planning Board
  • Robert Catell, Chairman of the Advanced Energy Center and Chairman of the New York State Smart Grid Consortium
  • Francis J. Murray, President and CEO of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority
  • Richard M. Kessel, President and Chief Executive Officer of the New York Power Authority
  • Kevin S. Law, Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) President and CEO

The HIA’s Green Initiative
“For more than 30 years, the HIA has been the recognized voice for Long Island businesses and a powerful force for regional economic development,” said Alessi-Miceli. “We provide a forum for business leaders to network, problem solve and obtain advice on critical issues facing their businesses. The Green Initiative is top of mind of all forward-looking businesses.”

A series of seminar tracks and pavilions will be offered at the Trade Show that will be strategically marketed to targeted audiences. The Green Industries track will present programs that fully convey the present and future opportunities available to Long Island businesses in clean technologies and alternative energy.

A section of the HIA Trade Show’s IT Pavilion will be devoted exclusively to companies that are actively involved in clean technology. Another attraction will be a Social Media Café where attendees will have the opportunity to learn about and used increasingly important social media tools including Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. Attendees and exhibitors are encouraged to use the hashtag #HIA-LI in their live tweets and status updates from the show so others can follow the event from their desks and mobile devices.

A series of free seminars will be led by industry leaders on a variety of timely topics. In the area of clean technology, subjects will include:

  • Being Green: What it Means & How to Get There

Sponsored this year by Huntington Toyota and presented in partnership with the Long Island Forum for Technology (LIFT) and Suffolk County Community College, the HIA-LI Business Trade Show & Conference is the largest one-day Business to Business Trade Show on Long Island. Additional highlights of the event include an Executive Breakfast at 8:00-10:00 AM, keynoted by Barry Libert, Chairman of Mzinga, and author of BARACK INC: Winning Business Lessons of the Obama Campaign.
