Robert R. McMillan, Esq., to Moderate Discussion on Recent Healthcare Legislation and its Effects on Businesses, Professionals and Insurers
HAUPPAUGE, NEW YORK, May 5, 2010 – HIA-LI’s 22nd Annual Business Trade Show & Conference will include an important focus on today’s healthcare industry and related political actions. Features include a healthcare pavilion that will connect healthcare consumers, professionals and third-party insurance carriers, and a seminar featuring leading healthcare executives discussing Healthcare Economics and Politics. The conference and exhibition will be held at Suffolk County Community College Sports & Exhibition Complex in Brentwood on Thursday, May 27, 2010. The Healthcare Pavilion
This year the conference features a Healthcare Pavilion on the exhibition floor that will be open between 9 AM and 4 PM. Exhibitors include organizations that have a direct healthcare-related connection or healthcare-related service offering for businesses.
Healthcare Seminar
The conference also includes a free seminar and panel discussion entitled, “Healthcare Economics and Politics,” moderated by Robert McMillan joined by leading healthcare executives to discuss recent healthcare legislation and its anticipated effects. The panel will be held between 2:30 – 4:00 PM.
Mr. McMillan is of Counsel to the Mineola law firm of Bee Ready Fishbien Hatter & Donovan, LLP, and the first non-physician on the Board of Trustees of the American Medical Association. He has served as a Director of Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, is a Member of the Board of Directors of Madison National Bank and served on the Board of Directors of WellChoice, Inc. and Lumex, Inc. He founded the Long Island Housing Partnership, Inc. in 1987 and served as its chairman until 2001.
Other panelists include:
- Scott Einiger, a senior partner and director of the New York City Health Law Practice at Abrams, Fensterman, Fensterman, Eisman, Greenberg, Formato & Einiger, LLP. With extensive experience in health care law, Mr. Einiger frequently represents physicians in legal and business matters.
- Joseph Torella, currently President of the Employee Benefits Division at HUB International Northeast, a leading insurance brokerage firm, and part of HUB International Limited, ranked as the ninth largest brokerage globally. Throughout his career, he has held managerial and executive positions for managed care companies and the consulting community.
- Kevin Dahill, President and CEO of the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council (NSHC) and Executive Vice President of the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS). Mr. Dahill is routinely sought for his expertise on a variety of health care issues such as: hospital economics and finance, health services planning, hospitals and community benefit, workforce issues, corporate compliance, quality and performance improvement issues, and managed care practices.
- Dr. Matt Lewis, President of Commack-based Lewis Wellness Consulting, LLC, a privately owned company that offers turn-key wellness programs for corporations throughout the tri-state area.
“Now that the law has passed on 2010 Health Care Reform Legislation there are many questions about health care and medical benefits for employers and employees,” said HIA President Terri Alessi-Miceli. “Our conference will seek to explain what this legislation will mean to Long Island companies and their employees.”
“Employers are concerned about what legislative changes will mean to their bottom line,” Mr. McMillan said. “With current expenditures at $2.4 trillion, healthcare spending is expected to double in the next ten years. The main thing that we want to do now is to lay out the facts of the current law and the timeline for implementation.”
