Position Description

Account Manager/Benefit Advocate

Classification: Full-Time (40 hours/week), Salaried, Exempt

Position Summary
An Account Manager interfaces with a group of clients (a book of business) to strategize and
propose viable solutions to manage the menu of benefit options that the client offers to its
employees. An Account Manager partners with clients and assists them with 1) emerging trends
in employee benefits, 2) their annual renewal process, and 3) other possible options that would
enhance or meet the goals of the client; the end product of this partnership is intended to add
value to the client, enabling the client to be competitive in their own industry. An Account
Manager will quickly assess the nature of any given problem, understand thoroughly the
expectations of the client, and consistently meet or exceed those expectations. An Account
Manager must contribute to and flourish in a team environment and engage in regular
professional development.

Position Responsibilities
1. Helps client articulate their long-term benefit goals and develops a strategic plan to achieve
them. Becomes a partner with each client.
2. Handles all communication with the employer.
3. Strategically plans and executes plan renewals and drives the renewal timeline with the Benefit
Analyst. Anticipates concerns developing from the renewal process.
4. Assists Benefit Analyst with renewal negotiations with the carriers, renewal plan selection and other
renewal functions as needed.
5. Assesses cross selling opportunities with all clients. Adds value through presenting additional options
for their benefits package including voluntary benefits. Works with Aimee to discuss what
additional lines should be quoted at renewal.
6. Ensures that the implementation and transition processes for all carrier changes are handled
smoothly with minimal disruption. Communicates and documents major issues and changes. Stays
on top of the renewal checklist and meets Aimee to discuss the renewal timeline.
7. Conducts employer presentations (phone/webinar/in person) in a consultative, logical, professional
and informative manner. Assesses clients understanding and attitude during meetings and
presentations and adjusts accordingly. Encourages feedback from the client.
8. Conducts employee meetings/webinars if requested. Works with client to develop employee
communication material.
9. Effectively addresses client problems and issues. Assesses the nature of a problem quickly,
understands thoroughly the expectations of the client, consistently meets those expectations
through viable solutions, and does so in a timely manner. Acts proactively when a potential problem
is discovered. Assists client with any escalated employee issues.
10. Enters notes in CRM system after all meetings, contacts and ensures that follow up issues
are handled timely and communicated to client.
11. Keeps team informed and communicates thoroughly and clearlywith all team members
concerning client issues, renewals, and proactive work. Positively influences the team
members and mediates concerns, offers encouragement and praise, promotes engagement,
and builds good working relationships. Ensures team is following timeline.
12. Supplies training for groups including new HR personnel.
13. Performs other duties as needed or assigned.

Reporting/Accountability
Reports to: Aimee DiBartolomeo, President

Knowledge/Experience Required
1. Two or more years of experience in benefits
2. College degree preferred
3. Health license
4. P/C License preferred

Skills/Abilities Required
1. Excellent communication and presentation skills (listens, speaks, and writes well); able to
interact effectively with people of various responsibility and authority (employees, key
contacts, executives, etc.)
2. Highly organized
3. Able to manage a multitude of details (including paperwork); stays proactive while juggling
these issues
4. Possess a natural inclination to reach out and build relationships
5. Very comfortable with typical business technology including, Outlook e-mail, Word, Excel
and PowerPoint

Physical Requirements/Miscellaneous
1. Valid Driver’s License
2. Reliable vehicle
3. There are no physical requirements for the position
